Brian Ramsden

Short CV

After graduating from Edinburgh University in 1966 (MA Hons Classics with Public Law), Brian taught (Latin, Greek and Music) at Chetham's School, Manchester for two years.

In 1967 he married Julie (née Turner); they have two children and five grand-children and live in Milton Keynes.

In 1968, he entered higher education administration at the University of Keele Institute of Education.

In 1973, he was appointed an Assistant Secretary at the Open University, and subsequently undertook various roles culminating in Head of Planning.

In 1993, he was appointed as the founding Chief Executive of the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), a role which he held until 2002.

In 2002, he was appointed an Associate Professor in the Department of Information Science and Computing at Brunel University. He also undertook several consultancy roles for the UK Government, Universities UK, and other clients.

In 2004, he was awarded the Honorary degree of Doctor of Letters by the University of Brighton. He also has been awarded Associateships of the London College of Music and the National College of Music and the Arts.
